Residential extension · Concept study

A lighter way to live

Client brief: Create a generous family kitchen and improve the connection between a traditional brick home and its garden.
Design challenge: Balance a broad opening and abundant glazing with privacy, solar control and the scale of the original house.
Proposed solution: A restrained rear addition uses deep reveals, warm materials and a clear structural rhythm to frame views without overpowering the host building.
Planning & technical: Planning context, party-wall interfaces, drainage, structure and thermal performance would be tested before technical design.

Loft conversion · Concept study

Client brief: Create a calm main bedroom and useful storage without losing the character of the existing upper floor.
Design challenge: Resolve stair access, head height, daylight and fire safety within a compact terraced-house roof form.
Proposed solution: Rooflights, low-level joinery and a carefully placed stair turn limited visual clutter while making every usable millimetre work harder.
Planning & technical: Permitted development limits, escape strategy, structure, insulation and protected routes are all critical to feasibility.

Mixed-use · Concept study

Client brief: Introduce flexible commercial space and homes on a constrained urban plot between established buildings.
Design challenge: Increase value and usable area while responding to neighbouring scale, servicing, outlook and the street rhythm.
Proposed solution: A warm masonry façade and clearly defined base create continuity at street level, with the upper storeys set back to soften massing.
Planning & technical: Access, refuse, daylight, amenity, fire strategy and policy compliance would shape the planning case.
